Overview |
Department of Traumatology and Critical Care Medicine Our department originated from the Emergency Department of Osaka City University Hospital established in 1993 when the present university hospital building was constructed. The school of medicine created a chair of the Department of Traumatology and Critical Care Medicine in April 2005. As the Emergency Department was involved in emergency and critical care in Osaka prefecture, our department was designated as an Emergency and Critical Care Center in February 2010 and is now socially responsible for offering higher-quality medical care. Our main staff members are board-certified physicians of the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine. Each staff member is capable of performing emergency care, operations and critical care as an emergency and critical care physician, and has his or her own research field. The Emergency and Critical Care Center provides high-quality medical care for severely injured, burned, or intoxicated patients and for critically ill patients with conditions such as stroke, heart failure, and respiratory failure. We are in charge of the emergency medical field at Osaka City University Hospital, and closely cooperate with the cardiovascular surgery department, neurosurgery department, orthopedic surgery department, endoscopy center, CCU, gynecology department, pediatric department, and infection control center. We also promote cooperative research with these departments. We have also been in charge of the ICU for postoperative and critically ill patients in the university hospital since July 2007. It is very useful for analyzing pathophysiology and developing new treatment methods to link care for patients under operative stress with care for traumatized or critically ill patients, which enables us to improve critical care quality. |
