The First Department of Internal Medicine was established by its first professor Toshiro Oda in 1948. He was followed by the second professor Kenzo Shiota, the third professor Tadanao Takeda, and fourth professor Junichi Yoshikawa. Prof. Minoru Yoshiyama was appointed as the fifth professor in 2006. In 2010, the First Department of Internal Medicine was divided into 3 departments, Cardiovascular Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, and Nephrology, and Prof. Minoru Yoshiyama was appointed as the first professor of Cardiovascular Medicine. Our department has conducted many research projects to date.

Our department also has a cardiovascular care unit, which accepts emergency patients with cardiovascular disease 24 hours a day.
