Osaka City University School of Medicine started in 1944 as Osaka Medical School, and later it became a part of Osaka City University. Since then it has continuously developed and expanded the medical education courses and a university hospital.

The white and elegant statues of three goddesses are in front of the university hospital entrance. These Goddesses of Wisdom, Compassion and Bravery symbolize our educational philosophy. The right is the Goddess of Wisdom. A book in her left hand epitomizes the acquisition of advanced knowledge and excellent skills. The center is the Goddess of Compassion. A drug pot in her both hands symbolizes the warm heart open to the hardships and pains of the people, and the strong will to serve for others as a medical professional. The left is the Goddess of Bravery; her laurel crown is a show of the positive courage. These statues always are keeping the tender eyes to the students, who are determined to be good doctors.

Osaka City University became the corporate body in April 2006. As a fully-fledged organization it has laid the foundation for the further development of the school of medicine. Its universal mission as a university is to contribute to the local community as well as the broader society of the world through nurturing the talents of excellence and searching the truth.

As an educational institution, it is also seeks to develop the talents, who would play the leading roles in both medical science and medical care, and to establish the support system so that our unique basic and applied study becomes our distinctive core strength. As a medical training institution, it intends to match the medical education to the global standard, to adapt to the qualitative and quantitative changes of the students and the society, to be more patient-centered, and to develop quality medical providers with excellent communication skills and ethical values.

To enhance its educational and research infrastructures, Graduate School of Medicine and School of Medicine have already established Health and Preventive Medicine Research Lab, 21st Century COE Program under the Ministry of Education and Science, and Food and Drug Evaluation Center. As a city university, it is highly expected to contribute to the good in the local society, economy, and culture.
We are, as a public university, positioned to serve the general public with the advanced medical cares, by providing the quality clinicians with affluent knowledge and humanity.
To this end, we are also striving to holistically develop the all-round clinicians in collaboration with the city hospital under the program adopted by the Ministry of Education and Science. We hope to receive your support and understanding to our efforts.
