Welcome Letter

Kenji Ohata, M.D., Ph.D.

Dear colleagues and friends,

It gives me great pleasure to invite you all to the 10th Congress of International Meningioma Society and the Cerebral Venous System at Osaka in 2016. The congress is being organized parallel with the 7th International Congress of World Federation of Skull Base Societies and the 28th Annual Conference of Japanese Society of Skull Base Surgery. “World Skull Base 2016” is named with symbolic integration of participants and organizers.

The 1st “International Symposium on Skull Base Meningioma” was organized by Prof. Rudolf Fahlbush in Bamberg, 1992, and the 1st “International Workshop on Surgery of the Intracranial Venous System” was organized in Osaka by Prof. Akira Hakuba in Osaka, 1994. Thereafter Prof. Ossama Al-Mefty jointly organized these two conferences in Little Lock, 1997, and from then onwards these two conferences have been organized jointly every two years. We take great pleasure in hosting this auspicious joint congress in Osaka, twenty-three years after the 1st “International Workshop on Surgery of the Intracranial Venous System”.

Meningioma, the most common pathology of the central nervous system,is affecting a huge number of population and still a matter of controversy lies regarding the strategy for the definitive outcome. Topics of interest in this conference will be regarding the pathological classification and the genetic analysis to clarify the outcome prediction. Thus the treatment strategy by surgery and radiation will be the highlights of the congress.

On the other hand, intracranial venous system is one of major issues to take into consideration for avoidance of minor to catastrophic complications. Although most of neurosurgeons are aware of how important it is, correct analysis of potential collateral circulation and the mechanism of contusional hemorrhage are sectors that are still not properly clarified in scientific level. Topics of interest in this conference will include methods to overcome the venous complication and to aim for the definitive surgery.

We are looking forward in giving a heartfelt welcome to all the participants from the world.
