Overview |
The Drug and Food Evaluation Department and the Center for Drug and Food Evaluation of Osaka City University Hospital were both established in December 2005 to support and facilitate clinical trials and clinical research on drugs, medical devices and health-promoting foods. Recently, the environment surrounding medical products including drugs and medical devices has been changing drastically with the spread of global clinical trials and requirements for clinical research to comply with relevant regulations. The enactment of the Clinical Research Law in April 2017 has particularly accelerated process improvements to ensure that clinical research is conducted in compliance with the law. Additionally, the 5th Science and Technology Basic Plan adopted by the Japanese Cabinet in January 2016 aims to greatly facilitate scientific technology innovation and focuses on system improvement to promote industry-government-academia cooperation. Establishment of a system for technology innovation is an urgent task for Osaka City University as well. Under these circumstances, the Center for Drug and Food Evaluation was re-organized and the Center for Clinical Research and Innovation (CCRI) was newly built to further accelerate clinical trials and clinical research and to make initiatives to improve local healthcare through industry-government-academia collaboration. Currently, our department studies the regulatory science of medical products while operating the CCRI, and conducts studies on (1) the development of management systems to propel clinical trials and clinical research in academia, and (2) generation of new ideas for medical innovation with the aim of quick introduction of new medical products into clinical practice. |
