Overview |
The Graduate School of Medicine at Osaka-City University created the Department of Medical Statistics in April 2017. In doing so, OCU made a major commitment to build a top-class department that includes a strong master’s and doctoral level education program in biostatistics. The faculty has committed to provide an excellent environment for students who seek a career as a biostatistician using exceptional analytic and computing skills within a wide range of careers in academia, industry, the government, and beyond. The department also welcomes medical personnel, such as medical doctors, nurses, and pharmacists, who want to promote their career in conducting good clinical and epidemiological research. The department collaborates closely with the center for clinical research and innovation (CCRI) in the OCU hospital, which provides an excellent on-the-job experience for students who collaborate directly with clinical faculty members in the hospital. OCU-CCRI is the hub of the Japanese regional REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) consortium, where OCU faculty and student members have free access to REDCap. REDCap is one of the world standard EDC systems for medical academia and has been recommended by the US National Institutes of Health. The school is located in Abeno, near the heart of Osaka. Along with being an excellent living environment, the locational advantage also provides many opportunities to collaborate with off-campus researchers from all over Japan. |
