Overview | History of the Department of Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Molecular Medicine & Nephrology In 1950, Professor Kiyoshi Ishii first established our department as the Second Department of Internal Medicine, with the main research fields of metabolism, diabetology, endocrinology and nephrology. He was succeeded by Professor Masahisa Wada in 1964, Hirotoshi Morii in 1984, and Yoshiki Nishizawa in 1999. Professor Masaaki Inaba, who took up post as the fifth professor of our department in 2010, has broadened our research fields and improved the quality of our research, clinical care, and education more than ever. Now, our major fields include metabolic bone disease, sleep disorders, dialysis, and rheumatology in addition to diabetology, metabolism, endocrinology, and nephrology. Our department has graduated more than 400 physicians who work in various medical settings such as health administration, medical clinics, public/private hospitals, and academia. To date, our department has also produced professors of hematology, endocrinology, molecular pathology, and preventive medicine at our university and other universities. Three Missions 2) We educate and produce scientific physicians with a high-level speciality in the above-mentioned fields as well as general fields in internal medicine. 3) We play an important and constructive role in providing fundamental treatment for highly advanced medical care at the university hospital by performing safe, holistic and sophisticated medical care as a specialized scientific physician. Research Fields 1. Bone, Rheumatology & Endocrinology group:Ca/P/PTH regulation system, metabolic bone disease (osteoporosis /osteomalacia), thyroid disease, sleep disorders, urate metabolism 2. Metabolism & Diabetology group: Insulin resistance and secretion, glucose abnormalities, diabetic vascular complications, dyslipidemia, obesity 3. Nephrology group: Glomerular nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, chronic kidney disease, diabetic kidney disease, dialysis 4. Vascular Medicine group: Clinical Fields 1. Bone, Rheumatology & Endocrinology group:Osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease, parathyroid disease, thyroid disease, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, sleep disorders, other endocrine diseases 2. Metabolism & Diabetology group: Type 1 and 2 diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemia, diabetic kidney disease, diabetic foot, gestational diabetes 3. Nephrology group: |
