Overview |
Welcome to the Department of Premier Preventive Medicine. The Department of Premier Preventive Medicine was established in 2014. It includes two divisions: a clinical center and a research center for preventive medicine. The clinical center “MedCity21” was launched on April 14, 2014 as the first facility for comprehensive medical checkups run by a public university corporation. MedCity21 has two divisions: medical checkups and specialty outpatient clinic. The medical checkup division provides high-quality screening and testing for cancer and lifestyle diseases (e.g., cerebral accidents, cardiac diseases, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disorder, and fatty liver) with advanced medical equipment by experts in each field in collaboration with Osaka City University Hospital for the purpose of diagnosing high-risk individuals and achieving reliable early detection and early treatment of diseases. The role of the specialty outpatient clinic is to provide continuous medical care services to patients who come in for health checkups as well as to treat university hospital patients as a satellite clinic. The research center, the other division of the Department of Premier Preventive Medicine, is pursuing the following projects: 1) establishment and operation of large scale biorepository that consolidates both biological specimens and health-related information, 2) a long-term health survey for those who undergo health checkups as a comprehensive cohort study, 3) analysis of biological specimens and information collected by the biorepository for the development of preemptive medical treatment, novel biomarkers and diagnostic methods, and 4) cultivation of knowledgeable, effective, and well-rounded specialists in the field of preventive medicine. Our biorepository is collecting and storing de-identified biological specimens including plasma, serum, and DNA from blood, and corresponding health-related and clinical information obtained from those who undergo health checkups in MedCity21. |
